What is yard regrading?
Regrading reshapes the slope of the ground so surface water runs away from the house instead of toward it. Where the ground within the first several feet of a structure falls back toward it, regrading re-establishes that fall — and it is frequently the cheapest permanent drainage correction available.

Foundation backfill settles. It is disturbed ground placed back around a structure and it consolidates for years after construction, most in the first decade but never entirely stopping. A grade that was correct at handover is often negative twenty years later.
Landscaping accelerates it. Beds built up against the house, mulch added annually without removing the previous layer, and patios installed without maintaining fall all raise the ground next to the structure relative to the ground beyond it.
The work means establishing fall away from the structure over the first several feet, then tying that new grade into the existing ground without creating a low point at the transition — which is the part done badly, because it simply relocates the puddle.
The worked area needs restoration afterwards. In cold ground seed will not establish, so winter work is usually staged with restoration in spring.
